Time for New Business Cards, Any Ideas?

Well, I have grown tired of the same old business card and am looking to order some new ones so I figured I would attempt to jazz it up a little and start from scratch.  I have looked around at my friends and fellow industry members cards locally for some inspiration and haven't came across a single business card that offered much in the way of creativity or ideas.

I have read a few posts here on AR from people offering different suggestions and tips, ranging from custom shapes, cut outs, and a personal image marketing, and now need to put together some sort of compromise or combination of these and make myself a custom business card.

Since I have almost 0 creative skills and artistic ability, I am seeking some crafty and creative input and suggestions from my friends here on AR.  Here's my only limiting criteria:

-must have my company name 'Canada First Mortgage' on it

-company red maple leaf logo is optional, but i like it

-my full name, phone number, email, and my URL's on it (at least one of them)

Lethbridgeloans.com

LethbridgeRealEstateBlog.com

-must have my VERICO franchise logo on it

Other than that, I am free to do whatever with it.  Anyone have any creative ideas or successful designs that they would like to share?

I did 2-sided cards. My 2nd side markets the valuable information posted on my website and blog.

Whatever you do, don't get laminated cards!  I bought 1200 of them, and they look fabulous....but you can't write on them.  I have heard that vistaprint is a good source for cards, but haven't tried them personally.

2 sided paper ones from Vistaprint is what I currently have.  They are ok, but very plain and dont stand out at all.

I have heard that about laminated before too, so I will definitely avoid them.

Hi Robert - I actually love my laminated cards.  I've never been lucky but nowadays I win raffles all the time with them - to the point where I'm tempted to question if it was rigged when I don't win.  I get mine through advantageprinting.net. They have a variety of 2nd side options including mortgage calculator ones I think.  I have a tip chart - only because I was at a conference and an agent pulled out another agent's card from her wallet and mentioned that she had held on to it for two years because of the tip chart on the back. That was enough for me - it's not something I've ever needed (as a one-time waitress I can do it in my head) but if some people need them than it works for me.

I suppose embracing the stereotype- a Moose holding a beer, wearing hockey gear and waving a Canadian flag, along with the slogan "we are "eh" rated". Just a thought....what do I know, I'm just a darned yankee here in nearly bankrupt CA.

Good luck on the design. In graphics, less is more. I was a graphic artist for a few years before I found out they don't make enough money. Stick with a strong, readily identifiable logo.

Hi,

Maybe you could incorporate the no. 1 into the maple leaf somehow...

on the reverse side you could list why your company is great or information people need to know about getting mortgages.

Just a few ideas,

Danielle

Please don’t use Vistaprint or recommend it to your readers. Using Vistaprint could very likely lead to you being signed up to FAKE discount clubs and hundreds of dollars benig taken from you Visa/bank without your knowledge or permission. I have a huge blog post with all the details of all of the different scamming sites Vistaprint and Adaptive Affinity run and how best to get a refund. http://www.hubbers.com/index.php/i-got-scammed-by-vistaprint-and-adaptive-marketing-and-adaptive-affinity-ltd-and-amazon/ If you don’t believe me check this blog and the scores of comments form people who have been ripped off! http://www.thegeneva.com/vistaprint-scamvprewards-scam-warning/ You can also sign this petition! http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?stop1111&1

Sorry to hear about your situation Hubbers.  I have used Vistaprint for different products on 4 occassions and never had a single problem at all.  Yes, they do offer upsale services on top of the FR.EE offers designed to attract people, but you do not have to buy any upgrades unless you want to.

I went to your site and read your story.  Obviously, you added those 2 services to your checkout before paying, which really isn't Vistaprints fault.  Plus, you state they refunded your money once you complained about it.  From reading that I would't say you were 'scammed' in any way.  Perhaps you were unclear what you were buying, but that really isn't their fault, and there is no way they could assume that you did not understand what you were buying.   I am sure they serve thousands of people every day and do not expect that they have trouble comprehending the online transaction.

Regardless, thanks for the comment.  You are entitled to your own opinion, however from reading the facts as you present them, it appears that the fault in your situation was your own and not Vistaprints.

Hi Robert.  Check out www.wordle.net

If you can come up with several words to describe your business, you can plug them in to create a very cool word cloud for the back of your business card, or to supplement your current logo.  Do you have a slogan for your business?  That would make a great word cloud.

If you like this idea and need help getting your word cloud into a jpeg format, I am happy to help!

Here is a word cloud that I've created for a local site I am building about the town Sturbridge, Massachusetts, called AskMeAboutSturbridge.com

Logo for askmeaboutsturbridge.com

Hope you get a variety of ideas that you can use.

Dear Robert,

It sounds as though you already have a lot of information that must be on your card! You might want to try the tent type of card. It would give you more room to be creative.

I love the idea of Kathryn's word cloud. Grabs my attention.

You also might want to have 2 different styles of cards. One generic and one with more pizzaz!

Good luck!

good idea Barbara.  I was thinking of making 2 types of cards already, as I have a promotional idea of making a really nice card for my Realtor clients that includes my info on it as well.  So I really need to make a card for myself, plus a card to market with.

I hadn't thought of a tent card, and it sure would give me more surface area to blah blah blah about stuff on.
